In 2019, SEPCOIII was chosen as the EPC contractor for the large-scale Tidia Entertainment City project in Saudi Arabia. The project spans approximately 28,000 square kilometers and encompasses lands, islands, beaches, deserts, mountains, and volcanic areas. This luxury tourism development project, located in Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia, aims to create a high-end destination offering unparalleled marine and environmental attractions for Red Sea tourism. Learn how SEPCOIII relied on ETAP's Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) to assist with the technology challenges for the project’s distributed energy power system, and how the solution is being used to manage and supervise the power distribution system to achieve better optimizations and improve system stability.
Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation III or SEPCO III is a Chinese construction and engineering company that designs, builds, operates, and owns power plants. SEPCO3 offers the construction of power plants via the EPC method (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) on a turnkey lump sum basis. Moreover, SEPCO3 also offers the development of power plant projects through BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BOO(T) Build-Operate-Own(-Transfer) methods.

Real-time electric power monitoring
Which solutions do they choose?
They chose ETAP, a full turnkey real-time solution, for centralized and remote network operations and management, based on the digital twin model of the electrical network to have a Transmission Distribution Management System (TDMS). All scopes of processes are managed by ETAP software, from the Design step, by Build step, to the Operate step.
The city-scale Microgrid management solution proposed by ETAP was chosen: ETAP Digital Twin Modeling, ETAP SCADA, ETAP Power Management System, ETAP operator Training Simulator, ETAP Protection Asset Management, ETAP Arc Flash, ETAP Protection and Coordination, ETAP Power Flow, ETAP Distribution Network Analysis, ETAP Intelligent load Shedding, ETAP Microgrid, ETAP Mobile APP, ETAP NetPM. All the applications for planning, designing, modeling, and operating with geospatial visualization were chosen.
Why do they use Etap?
What do they think about ETAP?
The objectives of ETAP TDMS are to provide a shared network model and a common user experience for all rules that are required to monitor, control, and optimize the secure operation of the electrical distribution network, to maximize reliability, and allow users to benefit from cost optimization. For example, TDMS can dramatically reduce the operation team, which can save you huge operating costs. In this project, the ETF TDMS system shows a very good ability and performance in the control system.Ms. Haishan Wang, Engineering Director & Engineering Manager of Red Sea projectThe proportion of new energy power generation will continue to increase, and the technical requirements of micro-grid control are getting higher and higher, and the development of intelligent power grids is the trend of The Times.Ms. Haishan Wang, Engineering Director & Engineering Manager of Red Sea project
This Red Sea Project is a groundbreaking endeavor in Saudi Arabia under the Saudi Vision 2030 economic development program. The project is powered by a fully renewable energy system, including large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) system and a substantial 1.3 GWh energy storage system, effectively providing 100% clean energy to the development. As the Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm for this project, SEPCOIII has been involved with the design and construction of a wide range of permanent utility assets, including support facilities such as desalination plants, power generation facilities and distribution networks for water, electricity and natural gas. In this presentation, learn how SEPCOIII relied on ETAP's Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) to assist with the technology challenges for the project’s distributed energy power system, and how the solution is being used to manage and supervise the power distribution system to achieve better optimizations and improve system stability.
